AMC Celebrates Five-Year Anniversary

American Medical Careers is celebrating its fifth year in operation since it began offering certified nurse aide training in Flint in 2002. Originally established as Genesee CNA Academy, it has rapidly expanded its curriculum to seven certified medical training programs, with more to be introduced this year.  In 2003, the school opened a second campus in Lansing to accommodate the growing demand.

“We’ve trained approximately 500 people each year through our programs in Flint and Lansing,” said Karl Kaufman, president of American Medical Careers.  “Many of our students come from the ranks of the unemployed or underemployed who are looking for new career opportunities.  For many, completing our training program and obtaining their state or national certification is their first recognized achievement.”

Among American Medical Careers’ patient care specialist programs, students can earn certifications as nurse’s aides (CNA), phlebotomy technicians (CPT), EKG technicians (CET), patient care technicians (CPCT), pharmacy technicians (CPhT),
medical administrative assistants (CMAA), and clinical medical assistants (CCMA).

The Michigan State Board of Nursing recently approved a one-year Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certificate program that will soon be offered at the school’s Flint campus.  Genesys Regional Medical Center will be the school’s clinical partner for the LPN program.  Because of the growing demand among home care and long term care providers for skilled staff, American Medical Careers expects that this program will quickly expand to other locations throughout Michigan.

“With the increasing demand for nurses and other trained medical staff, we are confident that we can provide valuable training to people who wish to enter the medical field,” said Karl Kaufman, president of American Medical Careers. “Our certificate programs offer a fast-track to gaining highly marketable skills in a field where there is significant need.”

American Medical Careers works with a broad number of agencies and employers to recruit students and place them in externships, which are required to complete several of the training programs.

“Employers appreciate how well prepared our graduates are,” said Kaufman.

He added that since American Medical Careers began, it has established a reputation for the talent and quality of its teaching staff.

Plans are underway to hold an Open House for the public later in the spring at the school’s Flint campus.  Currently, there is a one-hour informational session scheduled every Tuesday from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. for prospective students who are interested in the Pharmacy Technician program.
