AMC Announces LPN Program

American Medical Careers Receives State Approval for Licensed Practical Nurse Program

American Medical Careers announced that it has received approval from the Michigan State Board of Nursing to offer a one-year Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) certificate program at its Flint campus.  Genesys Regional Medical Center will be the school’s clinical partner for the LPN program.

“With the increasing demand for nurses and other trained medical staff, we are confident that we can provide valuable training to people who wish to enter the medical field,” said Karl Kaufman, president of American Medical Careers. “Our one-year certificate program offers a fast-track to gaining highly marketable skills in a field where there is significant need.”

American Medical Careers, originally established in 2002 as Genesse CNA Academy, has rapidly expanded its program offerings.  It becomes one of three career schools in Michigan to offer the LPN certificate program.  Among its patient care specialist programs, students can earn certifications as nurse’s aides (CNA), phlebotomy technicians (CPT), EKG technicians (CET) and patient care technicians (CPCT).

“Many of our students who earn these certifications work in areas of long term care, home care and hospice, where there is ample entry-level access to a career in the medical field,” explained Kaufman.

In 2005, American Medical Careers launched a 300-hour, 10-week Certified Pharmacy Technician program, and in 2006, a 720-hour Medical Assistant program.

“We expect our LPN program to be another important step up the career ladder for students wishing to pursue a career in the medical field,” added Kaufman. “We also want to strengthen our ties with community colleges and other institutions, because we serve as an important feeder school, by providing motivated and well trained individuals.”

“Since our school was opened, we have established a reputation for the talent and quality of our teaching staff,” said Kaufman. “We are committed to making a difference in the life of each student, by opening up opportunities and helping them build a future.  Our students continually let us know that they want more than a job—they want a career.”
