Schedule:
Monthly during the day. Total: 8 program hours
Adult & Pediatric Modules:
- Adult, infant and child chain of survival & importance of calling 9-1-1
- Signs and symptoms of cardiac arrest and stroke
- Techniques of adult, child and infant CPR
- Rescue techniques for choking adult infants and children
- Child safety and injury prevision
- Automated external defibrillators
- Putting CPR and defibrillation together
- Legal and ethical issues
Basic First Aid:
- Legal and ethical issues
- First Aid fundamentals
- Victim assessment
- Bleeding and shock
- Wounds, burns, dressings and bandages
- Head and spinal injuries
- Chest, abdominal and pelvic injuries
- Sudden illnesses
- Poisoning, bites and stings
- Cold and heat-related injuries
Certification:
Earn certifications from the American Heart Association in Basic Cardiac Life Support for adults, children and infants as well as Basic First Aid.
Course Disclaimer: The course for which you are enrolled may include physical strain, possibility of cross infection and emotional stress. If you have a medical or coronary history or your physician has recommended that you avoid strenuous activity or limit your activity in any way, you should consult with your physician and ask his/her advice as to whether you should participate in a CPR course. CPR is hard work whether practicing on mannequins or providing CPR to a person. If you recently had any type of infectious disease including upper respiratory infection or open sores on your mouth or hands, you WILL NOT be allowed to practice on the mannequins. American Heart Association CPR certification is formal recognition that you have met certain standards at the time the course is presented. It does not guarantee performance at a later date nor does it license an individual to perform any procedures. Some or all the materials used in this course may be supplied by the American Heart Association. Fees charged for these course/materials do not represent income to the American Heart Association.
