Financing Options

We recognize that financing your career education can be a challenge, though it shouldn’t be an obstacle to your success!  Vocational training is typically less expensive than attending a community college or university.  At this time we are unable to accept Title IV funding.  However, we are in the process of accreditation and are anticipating the ability to accept Title IV Federal funding in the near future!

At this time, financing options accepted include:

  • WIA-"No Worker Left Behind"
  • Career Transition Programs through credit union loans
  • Displaced Worker (TRA-NAFTA) programs
  • TARFF Loans
  • Job, Education and Training (JET)
  • Out of pocket payments

"No Worker Left Behind" Program

American Medical Careers accepts assistance through the NWLB state programs.  See www.michigan.gob/nwlb for more information.  Qualifications include any person who is unemployed or who has received notice of termination or layoff from employment; any employed person whose annual household income is less than $40,000; participants must be 18 years of age, out of high school for at least two years and not a full-time college student.

Career Transition Program (Credit Union Loan)

Developed by the Michigan Credit Union Industry, in partnership with the Michigan Department of Labor & Economic Growth, to help credit union members obtain advanced training for a new vocation, trade or occupation.  To be eligible, members of participating credit unions must be recently displaced or in the process of being displaced from the workforce, have at least two years of prior full-time work experience and be a credit union member in good standing.  Maximum assitance per member of $10,00.  Disbursements must be made within 24 months of program start date.  Regional participating credit unions include Case Credit Union-Lansing, Elga Credit Union-Burton, Lapeer County Community Credit Union-Lapeer, and T&C Federal Credit Union-Bloomfield Hills (main branch). Visit www.ctpforcumembers.org/find_a_credit_union_227.html for more information.

Displaced Worker (TRA-NAFTA)

To qualify you must have lost your job or have been laid off due to trade with, or your employer's shift in production to, Canada or Mexico because of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA).  This program is called NAFTA Transitional Adjustments Assistant (NAFTA-TAA).  Call the TRA/TAA unit at (866) 241-0152 and ask for the NAFTA Transitional Adjustment Assistent Program (UIA 1628-S) or visit the forms area of the UIA website at www.michigan.gov/uia for more information.

TARFF Loans

A TARFF loan is a supplemental student loan program for residents of rural Michigan communities.  The loans are designed to help pay for the cost of higher education for the full or part-time student and may be used as a supplement to other student loans and grants, or in place of existing loan programs already available to the student.  To be eligible you must be a member of a Michigan farm family OR reside in a small rural Michigan community of 15,000 or less OR be closely associated with agricultural activities.  Eligible invidiuals also must have a family adjusted gross income of less than $60,000 per year and be a U.S. citizen and a Michigan resident for at least six months.  If approved, loans are up to $8,000 per year at an 8% interest rate per annum.  For further information and to apply visit www.mrrccollegeloans.com or call (800) 835-0650.

Job, Education and Training (JET)

Local workforce boards, Michigan Works! Agencies, the Michigan Rehabilitation Services, and the Michigan Department of Energy, Labor & Economic Growth and Human Services county offices work together to remove barriers to work and connect Michigan families with the kinds of jobs, education and training that lead to long-term self-sufficiency.
