Open enrollment begins Monday, March 15

If you would like to submit your application for enrollment into our 2010-2011 program and you feel you have meet ALL of the pre-requisites listed below, you may begin your enrollment process.  If you were not accepted into the program for 2009-2010, any paperwork you submitted previously will have been shredded.  Please submit new paperwork for the upcoming class.

 

LPN Program Workshops 

In lieu of one large open house, to effectively work with each candidate, we will be offering individual workshops geared towards helping our candidates focus on the area that you may need more assistance to ensure a smooth enrollment for the upcoming program.   A list of the workshops and dates/times will be available soon.   Individuals who have signed up for the newsletter will be the first to receive the upcoming workshop info.   Keep checking back!

Our Program

This is a challenging, yet rewarding program for qualified students.  LPNs provide basic bedside care under the direction of Registered Nurses (RNs) and physicians.  LPNs perform tasks such as dispensing medications, wound care, taking vital signs, collecting samples, feeding patients, and helping patients with personal hygiene.

LPNS are employed in hospitals, nursing homes, physician offices and clinics.  Employment opportunities for LPNs are excellent and are expected to grow strongly through the coming years
.

Schedule:

One-year program includes a combination of classroom instruction, laboratory skills training and clinical on-the-job training at various regional facilities.  Total:  1040 program hours

 

Subjects include:
  • Fundamentals of nursing and patient care
  • Diagnostic measurements, procedures and treatments
  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Medical surgical nursing
  • Newborn and child care
  • Pharmacology
  • Infectious disease

 

Certification:

The combined academic, laboratory and clinical training will prepare you for the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN) for Michigan licensure as a practical nurse, meeting the standards set by the Michigan Board of Nursing.

An LPN with one year of work experience qualifies for many LPN to Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) transition programs.

  1. 17 College-level credits (Anatomy & Physiology I & II + lab, English Composition, College Algebra, General Psychology; English, Algebra and Psychology must be minimum of 100 level)
  2. Successful completion of Certified Nurse Aide program
  3. High school diploma or GED
  4. Successfuly pass a criminal background check must be completed onsite 
  5. Negative 6-panel drugscreen
  6. Current CPR/BLS card
  7. Current physical exam clearing student for PN program.  Must use American Medical Careers' form. Download the health form here
  8. Current immunization history with documentation (tetanus, rubella, rubeola, varicella, negative TB/PPD skin test result, evidence of series of 3 Hepatitis B vaccinations).  Must use American Medical Careers' form. (see above for form)
  9. Approved funding documentation
  10. Completed enrollment agreement with driver's license or state ID and social security card.


Application notes:

No entrance exam is required.  All candidates must turn in all documentation by the application deadline in order to be considered for acceptance into the program.  The first 30 candidates to complete all ten requirements are accepted into the program.   Any candidate who may have applied for previous years programs and were not accepted into the program at that time, will need to start fresh and all former paperwork has been shredded.
